A New Era in Automotive Customization
About Anvil
Anvil is a demonstration of Machina Labs' RoboCraftsman platform, highlighting how we bring advanced customization and agility to automotive manufacturing. Our RoboForming process allows for rapid customization of stamped panels, without the need for hard tooling or long leads on equipment. Developed using the Ford F-150 Lightning as a base platform, Anvil highlights what’s possible when automotive panels are formed using our RoboCraftsman™ manufacturing system. What was once economically and operationally impossible is now within reach.
The tech behind Anvil, called Roboforming, is used to build fighter jets, spacecraft, submarines, and more.
We realized this approach to re-thinking manufacturing could change one of the most beloved consumer products: cars.
So we're opening up access for all. Now you can pilot your own custom designed vehicle at production-vehicle prices.
Say hello to
Infinite
body design combinations

The first Anvil is built on the Ford F 150 Lightning, but all ICE and electric cars can be customized.

Questions? We have answers.
Automotive manufacturers. Anvil demonstrates a manufacturing capability we offer to automotive OEMs, customizing and restriking sheet metal panels without tooling. We partner directly with OEMs to bring this into production programs.
Anvil was originally launched as a concept to explore full-vehicle customization using our RoboForming tech. The level of interest was incredible, and thousands signed up. But as our work with major automotive companies progressed, it became clear that the real opportunity was not in building trucks ourselves, but helping the world’s leading manufacturers build their next generation of customized vehicles.
Anvil now lives on as a proof-of-capability platform, demonstrating what’s possible with Machina Labs’ flexible manufacturing technology. While you can’t reserve a truck, you can ask the automotive industry to accelerate this capability.
Yes. The RoboCraftsman’s flexibility enables stamped panels with new design features, badges, or geometry, without needing to rework the original die
Hang-on body panels like hoods, tailgates, doors, and quarter panels are ideal for customization.
While Machina Labs currently performs all manufacturing in our Los Angeles factory, we are open to long-term partnership discussions that would and can support distributed factory models in the future.
The panels are made from the same material as the car's original ones. For the F150 Lightning, that means automotive-grade aluminum.
Production cars are made with traditional manufacturing techniques that leave no room for change or flexibility. Only the most wealthy car buyers could afford customization, as it requires skilled hand labor... until now. Roboforming, a technology from the aerospace world, replaces those traditional techniques with robotics and AI, delivering the efficiency of production manufacturing but infinite ability to customize.

“When we started Machina Labs, we wanted to radically increase access to manufacturing. We're excited to bring that access to a mass audience through car making. We want to make full customization as easy as adding a bumper sticker.”
